Yeah, I can maintain this little script. It does not seem to be to much 
work. I would need to add a proper python setup to the repo with a 
pyproject.toml. And if someone needs another protocol they can open an 
issue or write me an e-mail.

I am not familiar with the bird development process and I'm not sure if 
integrating it would make sense. That's why I would propose to maintain 
it as a separate project at first, see how it goes and be open to 
integrating it into bird itself at a later date.
What would incorporating this script into bird entail for me as the 
current maintainer?

If it stays a separate project I should think of another name maybe? 
bird-config-py seems a bit bland…
(I'm open to suggestions)
