bird2: channel down in direct protocol

Hi,

I would like to import interfaces routes in my bird instance, so I wrote
this into my configuration:

protocol direct {
        ipv6;
}

But the channel is down when I look thought birdc:

bird> show protocols all direct1
Name       Proto      Table      State  Since         Info

  Channel ipv6
    State:          DOWN
    Table:          master6

    Output filter:  REJECT

And of course, I have routes on my interfaces:

fe80::/64 dev eth0 proto kernel metric 256 pref medium

default via fe80::204:92:100:1 dev eth1 metric 3 pref medium

I don’t see anything in the documentation to force a channel to be up.
What am I missing?
